How we choose a trusted pet crematorium
When families leave their beloved pet in our care, they are placing enormous trust in us. We believe that trust extends far beyond the walls of our practice.
Simply arranging a pet cremation has never been enough for us.

During 2025, our Practice Director, Nicola, personally visited a large number of pet crematoriums across London and the surrounding areas. She wanted to understand every stage of the process, meet the people behind the service and ensure that the values of each crematorium reflected the standards we expect at Roundwood Vets.
As pet owners ourselves, we asked one simple question throughout every visit:
"Would we trust this crematorium with our own beloved pets?"
We were fortunate to meet several dedicated teams providing compassionate, respectful pet cremation services to the highest standards. Those visits reinforced just how important it is to choose partners whose values align with ours and whose commitment to dignity, transparency and individual care gives us complete confidence when recommending them to our clients.

Seeing the Care for Ourselves
What stayed with both Nicola and Jo was not simply how well organised everything was or the quality of the facilities.
It was the people.
From the moment they arrived, there was a genuine sense of calm, kindness and respect. Every pet was spoken about by name, never as a number. There was no feeling of being rushed. Instead, there was a quiet understanding that every pet in their care had been deeply loved and would be profoundly missed.
It was clear that the team understood they were not simply caring for animals. They were helping families through one of the hardest days of their lives.
Nicola was particularly struck by the warmth of the team. She left feeling reassured that the compassion shown to families was genuine and that every member of staff understood the enormous privilege and responsibility of caring for someone's beloved companion.
Jo was equally reassured, but from a clinical perspective she was especially impressed by the meticulous identification procedures, attention to detail and carefully documented processes that ensure every pet is cared for safely, respectfully and individually throughout their journey. She also commented on how evident it was that the professionalism of the team never came at the expense of empathy.

Some owners also choose to visit the crematorium themselves, spending private time with their pet in the Farewell Room before the cremation takes place and, if they wish, waiting for their pet's ashes to be returned later the same day.
Communal cremation
For families who do not wish to have their pet's ashes returned, a communal cremation offers a respectful and dignified alternative.
Following the cremation, the ashes are lovingly interred in the crematorium's Garden of Reflection, a beautiful wildflower meadow created as a peaceful place of remembrance. It is a tranquil setting where pets are laid to rest with dignity and respect, cared for in surroundings that reflect the love they brought to their families throughout their lives.
Many people find comfort in knowing that, even if they choose not to have their pet's ashes returned, their companion has a peaceful final resting place. Some families also choose to visit the Garden of Reflection from time to time as a quiet place to remember the special bond they shared.
